Choosing
the correct style
|
***
|
As with many things, choosing the right fashion style depends on who you
are and what your goals for dressing are. For most CD's & TS's the
primary concern is the issue of "passing", being accepted in the gender
role for which they are dressed. If this is your goal the best way to get
started is to choose apparel approprite to GG's of your age and lifestyle.
Don't rely on the small selections offered by those companies that are
stricly TG oriented, try shopping in the same places that GG's do, malls
or local outlets. But if internet or mailorder is your preference, we offer
these suggestions: |

-
Newport
News (www.newport-news.com),
Designer Outlet (www.designeroutlet.com),
and Dress Connection (www.dressconnection.com)
are all good choices.
-
Although
not on the web one of the very best sources of wardrobe building basics
is Bedford Fair (1-800-964-1000), their catalog is always full of good
values. Or Lerner New York (1-800-288-4000).
-
For something
a little more upscale try Bloomingdale's (www.bloomingdales.com),
or Macy's (www.macys.com).
Or
if you're looking for larger sizes
try Sears "Woman's View" catalog (www.sears.com),
or Lane Bryant (1-800-477-7030).

Finding
sizes for tall ladies
|
***
|
One
of the most common concerns that comes up for transgendered gals in shopping
for clothes that fit correctly is the difficulty in finding taller size
fashions. We sometimes tend to think that this just a TG problem, but the
truth is that there are more and more GG's out there over 6' struggling
with the same problem and the fashion outlets are slowly catching onto
the fact that we are not all petite. But in the meantime we offer the following
suggestions: |
***
-
www.columnclothing.com
offers a color catalog and online store that caters only to tall women.
They offer career separates, linen & knit casual clothes, silk evening
wear, and sleepwear where in
most cases the length of the garment is determined by the customer.
-
With outlet
stores in most malls as well as online sites JCPenny's (www.jcpenny.com)
offers a catalog "Especially for Talls", Tall Classics (www.tallclassics.com)
, Land's End (www.landsend.com),
and Eddie Bauer (www.eddiebauer.com)
can be good sources for taller fashions.
-
On the
mail order side try Tall Etc. (tallwomen.com),
J.Jill (www.jjill.com) who is offering
more and more items in tall sizes, and of course there is always Victoria's
Secret (www.victoriassecret.com)
for leggings and tunics which generally run long.

Stylish
shoes in larger sizes
|
***
|
As with taller sizes, larger shoes with a fashionable look have traditionally
been difficult to find. However the stylish shoes you need to look good
are available, if not in your local stores, by mailorder. |

Online
try Maryland Square (www.marylandsquare.com),
Designer Shoes (www.designershoes.com),
or Shoecraft (www.shoecraft.com)
whose "Tall Gals" catalog showcases sizes 10 1/2 to 15 only!
-
Strictly
by catalog other choices are Masseys (1-800-462-7739) with many styles
up to 13EE, Wissota Trader (1-800-833-6421) offering sizes up to 12-13EE.
-
If you
are in California try Step at 1004 Montana Ave., Santa Monica, CA-USA (310-899-4409)
which stocks mostly european imports with and emphasis on comfort &
style, and the owner even wears a size 11 herself.

While all of our site is open to your contributions and suggestions, the
forums area in particular depends upon them. If this area is to become
the source for information and support that we know it can be, then it
is all of our transgendered sisters & brothers that will make it so.
Your input might be just what someone else needed! If you have something
