Transgendered
Q & A
|
On our website we have tried to provide information on a wide variety of
subjects relating to trangendered life. Being at support oriented organization
we consider such information resources as one of the more valuable services
that we can provide to the community. As such, questions are always welcome.
We do our best to reply to all of our mail quickly, personally, and with
as much information and assistance as we have available not only for your
benefit but for ours as well. Quite often those same questions do as much
to inspire us as the answers do to help you.Transgendered Q & A is
something of our own FAQ (frequently asked questions) area. There are so
many questions that seem to come up on a fairly regular basis both in our
mail and chats that we thought perhaps it would be helpful to post and
address some of them here on our site for the benefit of those that may
be too shy to ask. |
| Q:
I've visited several
transgender sites/chats and while I admire the courage that so many have
had in going forward with seeing therapists, hormone therapy, transition,
etc. I wish I had known more about these issues when I was younger but
I think that I am too old to think about these things now. Do you have
any suggestions to offer me about living with what I have missed out on? |
A:
Actually, it is quite
surprising how often this particular concern comes up, but there is really
no reason to settle for anything less than happiness unless you choose
to do so. Age is generally not as big an issue as you might think. With
the improved availability of information on transgender issues in today's
modern computer oriented society the average age of transgendered people
first seeking treatment with a therapist is falling, however in the 1990's
that average still in the mid to late thirtys, and cases of people having
gender surgery even in their late sixtys is not at all unheard of. So don't
write off any of your options just yet.
A good gender experienced therapist is probably the
absolute best suggestion anyone could offer regardless of age. Just being
able to talk to someone about these things is a very uplifting experience
in and of itself, and an experienced therapist can be a very big help in
guiding you through the resources and options that are available as well
as helping to find the answers that are right for you. |
| Q:
I'm
trying to find a therapist in my area who is knowledgeable about transgenderism,
but there are no resource listings for the area in which I live. Do you
have any other information or suggestions? |
| A:
While
we try to post complete and accurate information in our resource area it
is a large task and there are certain to be any number of places or people
that have come to our attention. In that event we would offer the following
suggestions: |
***
Contact
TGE's Regional Director for your area. Our Regional Directors are responsible
for keeping the listings in their individual areas up to date, perhaps
they have information that has not yet been posted to the website or can
use their contact info to find what you need. There are e-mail links available
on the individual resource pages, organization, or feedback areas of the
site.
|
Contact
the support groups closest to your area. Being local organizations their
members are from the area and perhaps can suggest someone that they have
personal experience with.

Contributions
|
While all of our site is open to your contributions and suggestions, the
forums area in particular depends upon them. If this area is to become
the source for information and support that we know it can be, then it
is all of our transgendered sisters & brothers that will make it so.
Your input might be just what someone else needed! If you have something
to share here E-mail us: TGE@tg2tg.org |
